The rugged and beautiful landscape of Arizona gives birth to some of the coolest terrain on Earth. High elevation temples of the Grand Canyon, the rich red and steep Spires of Sedona and the craggy Sonoran desert landscape of the Superstitions. There are Desert summits of every kind for every time of year. Whether you have a specific climb in mind or are open to suggestions please call our offices and we’ll steer you towards a climb that will get you completely hooked.
This is where climbing spires turns into an obsession. Arizona is not only littered with thousands of technical desert summits but the variety of rock and terrain is never ending. All locations are within close proximity to Phoenix, Sedona or Prescott.
Itinerary: Mid Winter Climbs take place in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix. We meet in Apache Junction between 6 and 8 am depending on the climb you choose.
There are dozens of itineraries to choose from since there are so many different spires. Most include full days although the Praying Hands (3 pitches, 5.6) adjacent to Lost Dutchman State Park is a great half day adventure. Other Classics include:
- Spider Walk (HobGoblin Group: 5.7, 6 pitches)
- Field of Dreams (Flat Iron: 5.10c, 5 pitches)
- Side Winder (5.10a: 4 pitches)
- Bark Canyon Spire (multiple classic rock climbs up to 4 pitches 5.7-5.10)
