Skiing Skill Level: Intermediate – Advanced(You must be able to ski equivalent to on piste slopes rated to BLUE and be willing to try slopes equivalent to BLACK diamond)

This is a one day Introduction to Back country skiing for those who have experience skiing in-bounds. Skiing off-Piste is a liberating experience and we are excited to help you get started with your back country career.

  • Introductions to Touring equipment
  • Avalanche rescue equipment
  • Review of repair kit 
  • Introduction to avalanche bulletin
  • Uphill ski techniques and movement skills
  • Kick turns
  • Downhill travel techniques and movement skills

Itinerary

We meet at 8:30am at the Wake N Bakery in the town of Glacier Washington.  After a quick introduction and gear check we caravan up to Heather Meadows parking area adjacent to the Mt Baker Ski area.  This gets us to subalpine terrain at an elevation of 4,200 feet and gives us quick access to some of the best back country ski terrain in the galaxy.  Trips end between 4 - 6 pm depending on how much spinach you've had for breakfast.
