Skiing Slide Show

Skiing from the summit of Mt Baker is the greatest ski descent in the contiguous United States.  Big wide open glacier, fresh powder late into the season and 7,000 feet of skiing makes this better than all of the rest.  Join PE for our  two day descents of Mt Baker.

Day 1: 8:30 at REI in Bellingham, WA. Introductions, gear check and last chance to buy items. Arrive at Heliotrope ridge trailhead mid morning. Hiking begins at 3,700 feet of elevation. We hike three miles up to camp at 5,600 feet elevation.

Once camp is established we will ascend up slopes above camp and get at least once warm up run before the big day.  This lets people find their ski legs and for guides to see everyone ski.

Day 2: Leave camp early for summit climb. Timing depends on snow conditions.  From camp we skin, crampon and climb to the summit.  From the summit of Mt Baker at 10,770 feet we enjoy the 360 degree view of the North Cascades, Coast Range and Puget Sound before peeling skins. We then ski 5,000 feet to camp, pack up camp ski and perhaps hike another 2,000 vert to the car.
